Tugwell Earns BIG EAST Honor
Tech second baseman bats .609 for the week

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech second baseman Marc Tugwell has been named one of the BIG EAST Conference's baseball players of the week for April 1-7. Tugwell shares the honor with West Virginia center fielder Mike Frownfelter.

Tugwell, a junior from Springfield, Va., batted .609 for the week, posting two five-hit games in the process. He was 14-for-23 overall at the plate over a five-game stretch with five runs scored and three runs batted in. Tugwell went 5-for-5 during an 8-2 victory over Charlotte. He scored one run and drove in another in that contest. During Tech's 10-9 extra-inning win at Villanova on Sunday, Tugwell collected five hits in six at bats and scored twice. He also drove in a key run during that game.

Tugwell raised his overall batting average to a team-leading .383 with his performances. He is batting .421 in BIG EAST games. The West Springfield High School product is currently riding a nine-game hitting streak during which he has batted .556 (20-for-36).

Tech, 15-12 overall and 7-3 in BIG EAST play, is scheduled to return to action against Virginia at English Field on Wednesday afternoon at 3.
